How to Actually Rest When You Can't Switch Off
Rest is not the same as stopping. You can lie on the couch for an hour and stand up more wired than when you sat down, because your body stopped moving but your mind never got the memo. Real rest asks for something different.
A few things that actually help, in no particular order:
Give your mind one thing to do, not zero things. Fully blank time often invites more looping thoughts, not fewer.
Move your body before you try to rest it. A short walk does more for a racing mind than another hour of scrolling.
Name what you’re actually avoiding. Half of restlessness is an unfinished thought looking for attention.
Pick a real stopping time for work and screens, and treat it like an appointment you can’t skip.
None of this is about doing less. It’s about giving your nervous system a clear signal that the day is actually over — which, most of the time, is the piece that’s missing.
